SUMMARY: 

The Paraprofessional is employed to assist a special education teacher(s) in teacher supervised instructional and non-instructional tasks working with students in Learning Support, Life Skills and Multiple Disabilities classrooms. The person occupying the position reports directly to his/her assigned teacher. The is a non-tenured position and is subject to annual review. The Paraprofessional is responsible for the efficient performance of assigned activities, including those described below. 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

If Part-time, the position is 5 ½ hours per day, five days per week. Not to exceed 30 hours per week. Hourly position during the academic school year. Potential for some summer hours if desired and/or needed.

 

If full-time, the position  is hours per day, five days per week.  Hourly position during the academic school year.?Potential for summer hours if desired or needed.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Mostly indoors in a classroom setting. Occasionally work in an outdoor recess or gym class setting. Physical requirements include bending, stooping, the strength and ability to lift approximately fifty (50) pounds and to assist in lifting and positioning students. Certification in Safe Crisis Management (SCM) which is a district approved program to ensure the safety of all students. MASD will provide the SCM training to paraprofessionals annually.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:? 

 

SPECIFIC POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:?In conducting this role, the essential duties of the Special Education Paraprofessional – Category 2 position shall include, but are not limited to the following:? 

  1. Performs instructional and non-instructional activities as assigned and supervised by the teacher/supervisor 
  1. Supervises pupils in the school and community as assigned 
  1. Utilizes positive behavior support strategies to effectively manage student behavior 
  1. Implements Safe Crisis Management procedures when required to ensure student safety 
  1. Demonstrates the ability to work as part of a team 
  1. Displays competence and good judgment in dealing with any physical and/or medical emergency which might arise 
  1. Demonstrates ability to utilize technology 
  1. Collaborates with the IEP team to assist in developing an educational program that will be directed toward the development of academic, communication, and social/emotional skills 
  1. Adheres to Federal, State, IU, District, and other applicable procedures, policies, and regulations as well as 20 hours of paraprofessional trainings 
  1. Must be willing to feed, toilet, and assist with the personal hygiene of students when necessary. 
  1. Achieve annual full certification in Safe Crisis Management. 
  1. CPR/First Aid Certification. 
  1. Participation in District approved in-service trainings. 
  1. Performs other duties as assigned.
